Boston 2023
Work was painfully busy from September '22 to June this year. This was a much needed escape. We had originally plan to go to Ohio since they have a science center which is top ten in the US. But WY really misses Boston so we changed our plan. It did not disappoint.
This was our first roadtrip with the Tesla. Everything took a little longer because of charging. Part of the reason was I made the mistake of not recharging after coming home from work. So we needed to stop by at supercharger late en route to Syracuse.
11pm charging at supercharger Syracuse.Crossing the border at night is the best.
Arrived at hotel late as planned. Got the last of 4 charging spots. How lucky. First time charging at non Tesla charger. Took a minute to download and sign up. Easy peasy. Had a warm cup of cup noodle and hit the sack.
Car was fully charged next day. Had breakfast. Wonderful old lady at hotel gave Ewan candy.
Ewan and I went for a quick swim at hotel pool. Packed and we were on our way to Boston.
Stopped by this wonderful place, pb&j Lunchbox, which is famous for it's pb&j sandwiches. How good can pb&j be? It was just absolutely delicious. The decor was wonderful as well. Retro lunchboxes from the 50/60s. I feel like I am now squarely in the United States. Sweet old ladies talked with us. Ewan got candy , again.
Stopped by supercharger late pm and went into a Dick's sporting goods. Man what a huge store. Had fun looking at all the cool sports equipment. Back on the road after a short bathroom break.
Made it to hotel later that evening. It is packed because of the 4th weekend. But we got a nice large room at the corner of the building.
Had breakfast in the room next day. Then went off to see downtown Boston. Decided to drive and even found charging at the garage.
First stop was Boston Commons. Carousel, swan boat. Ewan enjoy watching baby ducks. It was a great summer day. Not too hot and very sunny. Ewan was also very happy about his balloon sword. The guy we sold us the ballon told us he got here 5am to get a good spot. Crazy.
For lunch, we found this great sandwich place, which apparently is all the rave according to our Boston local friends. Tatte Bakery and Cafe. We had a bite. I had the African eggs which is sort of salsa, eggs and good toast. Pretty good. They also have a nice assortment of desserts and coffee.
We then took the T to Harvard Square. We got a little lost. But part of the fun.
Ewan had a bit of a breakdown when we got to Harvard Square over his ballon sword popping. But he was probably hangry. I carried him for a bit and took a quick peek at the Harvard bookstore and bought this great trivia deck for kids. Ewan finally calm down when he got his ramen noodles and calpico. He inhaled his bowl in about 8 seconds.
Our next stop was the iconic Mike's pastry. I was too full for sweets. But we picked up tarimisu and a cookie for later.
Next day was rainy. We had lunch at Potter Square. We ordered our favorite Japanese curry at Cafe Mami. It was nostalgic. Too bad that parking is now not validated and the original owner no longer runs the the place. Food was still good but not quite the same. We then went to Harvard's Museum of Natural History. It was very very good. Lots of fossils and animal model. Very impressive. Spent the afternoon there.
Next day, we parked at alewife station (even found an ev charging spot ) and took the T to the Seaport area. This is a newly revived area in Boston that is really well done. We spent a little time at the Boston Children's Museum (and got 1/2 price because it was closing soon).
Afterwards we bought some snacks at Traders Joe while Ewan and I playing random games like frisbee from a random lawn. Soon a couple of other kids joined and so parents get a little break. Weather was gorgeous so it all worked out.
We had dinner at Shake Shack Burger. It was really good.
The toughest part was the return trip mainly because we need to pick up the civic from the airport, clean the Tesla, move all our stuff over and drop it off in Oshawa. We didn't get home until almost 2am and both have work the next day. It was a long day but we did it.
All in all, this was a really fun trip. We made lots of nice family memories and didn't leave such a large carbon footprint.
