As the summer goes into full swing, we plan another fishing trip, especially after the successful trip last month. But since I am leaving for Hong Kong soon, I want to bring my son along. So this was the first serious fishing trip with LL. Will the 5 year old be bored? Will he fall into the water? Will he be able to get up at 5am? Read on.
The preparation...
We were not so prepared. The day before was a work day. By the time we had dinner and clean up, LL didn't get into bed until 10. LL was quite excited and took him a few minutes to fall asleep. I was in bed close to 12:30.
The next day...
I was up around 4:30, everything was still dark. I got myself ready and loaded the car. Finally, woke up LL at 5:00. He was a good sport and shot up without any drama. We were on the road by 5:20. Off we went!

The action...
We arrived at Island Marina, Young's Point at 8, as scheduled, and loaded the boat straight away. After a refresher from Keith, we were off. Let's fish!
LL started catching fish right off on his first cast.
The grown ups didn't do too bad either...
A funny story...
Apparently, I butt dialed emergency in between taking pictures. New phone and not used to it yet. When OPP called back the first time, I didn't answer because I had a fish on - 1/2 lb bass, a good keeper! The call display was "Console 12 location request". I don't recognize it so I didn't usually answer. So many scam calls these days. Then the police called WY (wife) and she didn't answer because she was driving. I answered second time OPP called. They verified my identity by asking my date of birth. I was trying to convince them I am not a serial killer dumping a body into a lake. Meanwhile, Sao was trying to get the hook from the gills a fish while shouting profanity and something along the lines of blah, blah, bleeding too much, blah blah, throw it into the lake fast, blah blah. While I am on the phone, still holding my rod, WY called on the other line because she now picked up the voicemail the police left for her about how her husband dialed emergency. She thought LL fell into the water! As a law abiding citizen, I assured the slightly irritated officer that everything was fine and I dialed emergency by mistake. I also assured I will answer the phone next time and thanked her for her time.
LL ended up catching around 6 pan fishes (Perch, Blue gill , sunfish), most of them on his own. I am super proud of him. As for the rest of us, we did manage to catch a couple of 1 lb bass each. All in all, it wasn't as action packed as last trip, but action was still pretty good.
When I had a fish on and the police were calling...
Feels surreal they I am fishing with my son.
We lunched at the Lock 27 restaurant and departed afterwards.
Fun was had by all.
My Carribean burger. Super good.
LL's kids fish and chips. He only ate the fries.
Thanks for reading.
