Visiting 嫲嫲 (Grandma)

Image
I visited Hong Kong for 3 weeks by myself in September. Mainly to be with my family after my Grandma passed (my grandpa passed about a year ago). Despite the Covid restrictions, it turned out to be an awesome trip. I was able to physically pay respects to my grandparents and  reconnected with friends and family. And the food, oh the food, was absolutely incredible. And I didn't even try that hard to find good food. Here's a glimpse of the trip.  The journey there: The preparation for the trip was insanely complex. Quarantine hotels, PCR test, Vaccination records, health declaration, etc. I was reading up on rules and restrictions months before. I made a huge to-do list. Then there's the normal prep like packing and travel insurance for a transcontinental trip like this, which I haven't done for close to 10 years.  Shout out to Felix for giving me a ride to the airport! He picked me up as well. What a guy! Breakfast featuring congee with pork. Pretty good! More meal time...

LL's First Fishing Trip

Image
As the summer goes into full swing, we plan another fishing trip, especially after the successful trip last month. But since I am leaving for Hong Kong soon, I want to bring my son along. So this was the first serious fishing trip with LL. Will the 5 year old be bored? Will he fall into the water? Will he be able to get up at 5am? Read on. The preparation... We were not so prepared. The day before was a work day. By the time we had dinner and clean up, LL didn't get into bed until 10. LL was quite excited and took him a few minutes to fall asleep. I was in bed close to 12:30.  The next day... I was up around 4:30, everything was still dark. I got myself ready and loaded the car. Finally, woke up LL at 5:00. He was a good sport and shot up without any drama. We were on the road by 5:20. Off we went! On the road chasing the sunrise  Posing at the dock The action... We arrived at Island Marina, Young's Point at 8, as scheduled, and loaded the boat straight away. After a refresher...

Connecticut Revisited

Image
Connecticut Revisited Our family vacationed in Connecticut revisiting our favorite places. More than other years, we needed a little time to relax and unplug. Because of Covid, specifically because people are anxious to travel, we opted to avoid air travel and just keep things simple with a roadtrip. For a bit of extra fun, we also visited the strong museum of play in Rochester, NY. Friday evening, we headed towards Niagara after a quick dinner. WY finally picked up her passport downtown (what an ordeal!) so I picked up Ewan at camp after finishing work. At the border, there was no lineup (was around 10:30pm). The officer found out we are from Hong Kong and started to speak with us in Cantonese. He apparently also immigrated to NYC from HK around the same time as me. This was a lovely exchange which I have never experienced with a US customs agent. He even spoke about how great the Strong museum is because of all the toys there from our childhood. The drive was smooth and we got to our...
