2023 Year in Review

2023 Year in Review This year seems to have gone quickly, perhaps because, among other reasons, 2023 was the first year after Covid. There were more exhausting moments than those of restful relaxation. Thinking back, there were also loads of joy and learning. Here is a brief recap. Boston harbor near sunset One of many meals at home Ewan: Karate Ewan has always been an active kid. In 2022, he inevitably got sucked into the Marvel universe - always punching and kicking. In March this year , we signed him up for Karate at a local dojo. This was the first "outside of school" thing that he is committed to. He has stuck with it until now. In these months, he not only got more physical exercise, but learned discipline, respect, self control, self confidence and a bunch of other real world skills. And he also gets to pretend he is kicking some bad guys' ass. Ewan is now a yellow belt and is taking up Bojutsu (art of self defense with a long stick). We are happy with his progres...

Ohio Visit 2023

It's Thursday night before labor Day weekend. WY and LL just recovered from yet another episode of a nasty illness (pink eye). Since we cancelled plans with friends (to avoid spreading germs), we decided to grab summer by the horns and do another roadtrip. Columbus was a city we've wanted to visit. Partly because of a great museum called COSI and we have relatives whom we love hanging out with.  (Caption: This is Dom's place. I have a soft spot for outdoor pool.) With a destination in mind, we opened our Airbnb app, and in less than an hour, we booked a small little apartment in downtown Columbus, Ohio.  I was immediately anxious about spending too much since this trip wasn't budgeted for. It's always a trade off between creating memories and spending money. And since we've never regretted any travel decisions, I knew we'll be ok. Work the next day was next level busy.
